RESTORATION COMEDY

by Hazed

During the reconstruction, I received hundreds of e-mails from players submitting character information so we could restore them into the game. Last week I shared one that brightened this Demi-goddess’ day. In case you all felt that the correspondence with players was easy, the attached string of messages shows a less satisfying encounter.

Howzit Hazed!

Just saw the info on the crash. You requested an estimate of the amount of the loss sustained by each character. Attached is a file that lists 24 of my alts, calculates the loss, and details their appearance, clothes, and relationships so you can restore everything. Thanks,

Zardoz

P.S. I also included a slide show of Unlimited Ltd’s last company picnic (ok.. we can’t take pictures, it’s a text-based game, duh… so I have a slide show of descriptions of what the pictures would look like). Hope you can make the next company picnic!

Hi,

I cannot download a file so large, please just give the amount for each character in one e-mail

Regards,

Hazed

Hazed,

Sorry about the file size. Attached is a listing of all of my alts, and a summary of their ranks, goals, and hobbies. I’ll send the supporting schedules in another e-mail.

Thanks again, and sorry about the file size.

Zardoz,

Just one e-mail for each character please. I only want to know what the amount of your claim is.

Hazed,

Sorry, didn’t realize you wanted each claim separate. Ok, attached is the claim for Zardoz. I have included a statement of the current cash balance both personal and company. I have also included a listing of his portfolio. To determine the value of the portfolio, I am considering the following alternatives for valuation:

1. Share value of the held stock based on the most recently closed cycle;
2. Liquidation value of the company based on the most recently closed cycle; and,
3. Net present value of the forecasted future cash inflows.

In order to determine the best possible method, I really need access to some financial information of the held companies. If Bella is not busy, could she access that information and send it to me? Then I can start the valuation of the shares.

Thanks again. I’m really excited about this project.

Zardoz,

Bella is a little busy with restoring Fed. Please send in your claim, it can be an estimate. In one e-mail. For each character. Soon.

Hazed,

Of course, I’m sorry. I should have realized that Bella was busy. It’s just as well. I think that the Net present value approach is the most generally accepted method anyway. Attached are the supporting computations. I have included the historical dividends received, and assigned a probability factor to each company which weights the estimated balance to arrive at an anticipated promotion pay out. I have considered several factors to discount the future pay out back to the date of the crash. Are you comfortable with 6%? I have several schedules in the attached workbook that analyze various factors. I think they will support the 6% factor. It’s kind of difficult since there isn’t really a galactic inflation factor. If you want, I can e-mail Bella my suggestions about adding inflation to the game. No problems here, always happy to offer suggestions.:)

I have also included the estimated cost of replacing the ship. I intend to buy the ship at my PO alt’s planet with a 10% mark up going to the planet’s treasury. I have included this mark up as a reduction to my PO’s claim.

I have attached a reconciliation of my Slithy balance. I have also computed a claim for additional slithies for the out-of-pocket expenses I have incurred for items such as coffee to sustain me while I continually clicked on the connect button during Fed’s disruption, and the cost of one mouse (long story, but I do have a receipt). I have converted my US$ cost based on the most recent exchange data as published in the Wall Street Journal.

Let me know if you need more information. I placed footnotes by most of my assumptions, and I have a table of major assumptions included in the workbook. I’ll send in the other 24 calculations shortly.

Thanks so much, and sorry about the misunderstanding,

Zardoz

Zardoz,

We are establishing a new rank in Fed2. It will be just below Groundhog. The new rank is Spittoon cleaner. If I do not receive the information I asked for in a simple e-mail, you will be the first player assigned to this rank.

If I don’t receive what I asked you for in the next e-mail, we will create another rank below that one. It will be Arlene’s pedicurist. You will promote when you have earned 300 tcc’s (toenail clipping credits).

Hazed,

I have thought everything over, and have decided an estimate without documentation is the best way
