ZARDOZ'S MARS MUSIC LIST

Note: To make it challenging, I picked one planet, and stuck with those locations. There are so many songs, and so many locations, that I was at a loss to choose.

Mars – Crossroads
The city's main crossroads has become a gathering place for the locals. From here streets go out to the four points of the compass, but everyone stops on their way, to pass the time of day with each other. To that end, benches have been placed on all four corners.
You can see a tree and a cat.

Stray Cat Strut, Stray Cats

Mars – Street
The street comes to an abrupt stop here as it reaches a dead end. All around you are tall, featureless buildings.
Northwest, the street leads back to a complex of warehouses. There is a door to the south.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Green Day

Mars – Armstrong Cuthbert, Inc
This is the Mars office of the company that controls all cargo shipments in Sol. Nothing gets shipped from anywhere, to anywhere, without Armstrong Cuthbert's involvement somehow.
One wall is covered with holos of staff who have earned the coveted "Employee of the Month" award. Reading the citations you realize that those who work here are expected to go above and beyond the call of duty; many of those displayed died in service to Armstrong Cuthbert's profit line.
A droid mans... or machines... the reception desk.

Taking Care of Business, Bachman Turner Overdrive

Mars – Probe graveyard
This crater is used as a dumping ground for all the various spacecraft and probes that have been abandoned on the Martian surface over the centuries. The Martian town council decided to collect them all up and place them together - partly to get them out of the way, and partly as a memorial to past attempts at space exploration.
Around you have been placed the crumpled remains of some of the failures, which crash-landed and were never heard from again - until humans landed on the planet, and found the wreckage. Russian symbols on some of the remains are testament to the fact that the now defunct USSR was the first to attempt to reach the red planet.
The crater continues to the south, southeast and east. You can climb up, out of the crater, to the northwest.

Crash Burn, Blues Traveler

Mars – Marsport
The southwest corner of the spaceport is reserved for craft belonging to members of the Martian City Council. Some of the vessels parked here are extremely fancy - clearly, there are perks to being on the planet's ruling body.
The landing area is north.
You can see a sportster.

I Can’t Drive 55, Sammy Hagar

Mars – The Duff Modem
The public bar of this run-down, seedy establishment is in need of a makeover; the walls are brown with tobacco stains, the floor sticky with spilt beer and other, less savory fluids. But the customers seem to like it just as it is.
A sign over the bar hangs slightly aslant: 'Try Our Modem of Real Ale'.
There is a door in the north wall.

One Bourbon, One Scotch, & One Beer, George Thorogood and the Destroyers

Mars – Frontier Gunsmiths
This gunsmiths may be small, but it is most comprehensively stocked, with weapons of all different kinds, many of which appear to be of alien manufacture.
Of particular interest is the fine display of missiles along one wall.
The exit is east.

Saturday Night Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd

Mars – Chez Diesel ( Social Center of the Solar System)
This bar is one of the few constants in this ever-changing world - Diesel has been a leading light in Mars culture for centuries.
The centerpiece of the room is a large fountain made of white marble, which has been decorated with intricate abstract designs. The water changes color every few minutes, and the gushing upjet changes speed and direction, sometimes sprinkling the drinkers with water. Shoals of tiny robotic fish dart around in the rippling pool, chasing a floating shamrock left over from a party.
The decor is black, the fittings chrome, and the seats are the plushest, most comfortable leather sofas ever invented. The walls are covered with a thick, soft fabric so that anybody collapsing against them will be cushioned as they slide to the ground.
A shiny new electronic piano sits in one corner, and an elderly Arcturian uses his four arms to good effect to play requests.
A large spiral staircase leads through a trapdoor onto the roof of the bar.
You can see Diesel and the Arcturian.

Jump Jive and Wail, The Brian Setzer Orchestra

Mars – Before the Ruins
Before you lie the ruins of an ancient Martian city. A huge archway leads east, into the ruins - it seems to twist and change shape even as you look at it.
Generations of archeologists have worked in these ruins, trying to understand what the Martians were like. They have done their best not to leave any trace of their work, and they are helped by some strange force that seems to keep the remains in a timeless state.
A sign on the arch warns you that the ruins are dangerous, and that the Martian city council will accept no responsibility for damage or death to anyone foolish enough to continue.
A narrow track leads away from the ruins and out to open country to the west.

Funeral for a Friend (Love Lies Bleeding), Elton John

Mars – Tux Delux
This high-class establishment used to cater to the upper classes, providing them with the finest quality clothing for the best of occasions. However, new technology has rendered bespoke tailoring services obsolete, so the shop is attempting to sell off its stock at bargain prices before closing down.
Mannequins display the clothes that are for sale, festooned with large flashy signs declaring "50% off", "bargain prices", "clothing slashed" and "everything must go".
The robotailor in the corner is starting to gather dust from disuse. It is now being used as a hatstand. At the moment it is displaying a selection of rather elegant gentlemens opera hats, priced at 10 groats each.
The exit is east.

Sharp Dressed Man, ZZ Top
