A VARIETY OF TYPOS

by Hazed

Fed's help system is quite extensive - type HELP followed by one or two words and the game will probably tell you what you want to know. For example, 'HELP DISPLAY' lists all the different things that you can display, and 'HELP DISPLAY PLANET' gives you the details of that actual command. You can also get help on concepts too - 'HELP SLITHY' explains what slithy toves are, 'HELP WORK' tells you everything you ever wanted to know about doing cargo jobs, and so on.

What you don't know about is the way I make sure the help system keeps on giving people what they want. There's a handy little feature that Bella built into it for me, which keeps track of the help requests made by players. Whenever somebody asks for help on something that the help system doesn't know about, it makes a note of their request, and adds it to a list which it sends to me once a day. I can then see what things new players want help on but which don't have a match in the help system, and add new entries. The more requests there are for the same term, the more obvious it is that there's a real lack that I need to deal with.

Actually that's not quite true, because by far the most common terms to show up on the list are 'HELP AK' and 'HELP DI' - but the technical details of the help system mean that I can't offer help for anything smaller than three letters!

Still, the list of non-matches does throw up some oddities - in particular, the typos people make when asking for help can be hilarious. Who'd have thought there were so many ways to misspell "akaturi":

help akatari
help akatur
help akaturai
help akauri
help akirka
help akitura
help akk
help akturi
help akutari
help akuturi

Ok, it is an alien word so maybe it's not that easy to get right when you are a newbod, but what about these typos:

help change chlothes
help change clothese
help change cloths

help fual
help fule
help fule

help spacechip
help spaceshipe
help spaceshop

I love the idea of a space shop, where you go to buy extra space. I could use some of that for my apartment!

But the best of all, my favorite typo of all time, was in the list of variants for slithy, or slithy tove. The list contains the expected mistakes:

help slithey
help slithie
help slithie
help slithys
help slity

But the one that tops them all is:

help slithy love

Awww... everyone should love their slithies!
