CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday January 14
by Catspaws

This week the kitty got a taste for chicken, and where best to get chicken than at Jeritt's on Brass. Arriving ahead of time, she demolished two chicken baskets before the game began, and even ate the baskets!

We had a great crowd this week, and started right on time, since a few expressed the desire to see if they could rack up some points before Fancy showed up. So, we started the first puzzle:

RANKS IN FED 2
P T W D T G Q
T L M K Q D I H K H
U T Q I E T P D I H K H
E V I Q L K H
U K H P J T Q D
D H T L K H

Phedre finished this puzzle first for three points, followed by Prometheus for two points, and Cronos for one point. Fancy showed up for the second puzzle, placing second to Phedre's first, and Cronos again in third.

THINGS YOU CAN DISPLAY (See HELP DISPLAY)
O L Q R M J D
Q M T E L A D
E K L A I R
U D U R I T
O G R G J I U
C L J I B M G U I

In a shameless plug for the other games in Fed, the third puzzle was:

OTHER OFFICIAL FED GAMES YOU CAN PLAY
M Q W C U I W P
H U J Q Y Y U L / X V C
E G X E / D Z Q / X U L
B N I W / F X I U H R Y Q
M Q W W Q I J N I G Q F
M Q W / C Z I U F Q / J U H Q

Fancy came in first, followed by Phedre and Prometheus. At this point, it was time to stop with the easy puzzles, and start one a little more difficult. (Note the easy starting point in the first entry of the list with the single letter.) I managed to eat another chicken basket before Fancy, Phedre and Prometheus finished the puzzle.

ANIMALS YOU FIND IN EARTH'S MINI ZOO
C / S N J C T T O / K B O / Q N X O / E T / C F / C D Q C K N C F / Z E S
C / A N F N / B N H H E

G E G R J E C G B O Q / C Q D C J S O / C Q / C / Q A C D D / G B N D Z
O D O H B C F K Q

For our last puzzle, I explored out in the great beyond and came up with a real stumper of a list (again note the single-letter starting point in the first entry of the puzzle). Fancy finished first, Phedre second, and Prometheus and Guido tied for third. Oh, and I almost choked on a chicken bone. This game is dangerous!

THINGS IN THE ARENA
T / V Y T I I / R T G B N T F B Q R T I / C S T A Q R
F X S / S P N S / Q K / R Q Z X S U S

F X S / L I T R S / Q K / F X / S A I B L F B A
F X S / S P N S / Q K / I T Z I S V V / V L T A S

Our final score for this week were: Prometheus in Third, Fancy in Second, and Phedre got her wish and beat out Fancy for First. Join me each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern for Fed's brainiest game, Cryptograms. And if you get stumped working the puzzles and want the answers, send me an email at catspaws_fed@sbcglobal.net.
