ON THE WEB: THE SPACE SHUTTLE SIMULATOR As the space shuttle nears the end of its life, space enthusiasts don't have to say goodbye to it right away. Instead, they can have a go at flying the shuttle using this free simulator program, called Orbiter. This is no space shoot-em-up - it is a serious simulator, using accurate physics. Complicated but fun. You can play around with the shuttle's robot arm and try to grab the hubble space telescope, or attempt a takeoff or re-entry. Rendezvous with the International Space Station or take the futuristic Delta-glider for a tour through the solar system. The Orbiter's emphasis is on realism, and the learning curve can be steep, so you will need to invest some time into getting to grips with it. But if you ever enjoyed playing with flight sims, then this is the next step on. Download this space flight simulator from the Orbiter web page. |
