FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday February 7
by Fancy-Fancy

Four players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Honoria, Hitman, and Roselie were present for the start, and Catspaws joined us there midway through the first puzzle. I went over how to play the game for Roselie, who was our new player in the game for tonight. With her understanding how to play the game, and no questions, it was time to determine the order in which our contestants would play. Roselie spun the highest number to go first in the order, followed by Honoria, and then Hitman. Catspaws got added to the order after Hitman when she arrived.

Our first puzzle of the night, which Roselie got to start, was a 6 word phrase (11, 3, 7, 3, 2, and 8 letters). She started off fine, finding 3 N's for 500 each, and then bought the E's. But her next spin stopped on Lose a Turn, turning the puzzle over to Honoria, who promptly hit another Lose a Turn. Hitman found an L for 750, then landed on a free spin, but missed with an H, so he didn't get to pick it up, and the puzzle went back to Roselie. Roselie added the S's, T's, R's, and M's, mixed in with buying all the vowels, and finally solved - experiments are carried out on minerals - to secure 5150 points for Round 1.

Honoria got to start tonight's second puzzle, a 2 word place (8 and 12 letters). She started off by calling for an M, but there were none, so Hitman got the puzzle. He found an R for 150 and a T for 200, and then when he landed on 500 he quipped, "Thats a little better, watch me screw this one up" and called D. There weren't any for him, and Catspaws took over the puzzle. She also finished it after calling S, N, I, O, A, C, B, and finally F before solving - Fanciful Fabrications - to claim 2100 points for Round 2.

Roselie got to start tonight's third puzzle, which was a 5 word thing (1, 4, 6, 7 and 5 letters). Her first letter called, N, wasn't in the puzzle, so Honoria took over, and promptly missed with an S. Hitman landed on 1000 and placed a T in the puzzle. He bought the E's, placed a couple R's, bought the A's, placed an L, and bought the I's before a Lose a Turn stopped him. Catspaws took over and placed four H's for 1800 points, and two C's for another 1000 before another Lose a Turn space ended her turn and gave the puzzle back to Roselie. She spun once, landed on 750, called a G, of which there was one, and then solved - a high backed leather chair - for 750 points.

Round 4 was a 6 word thing (5, 7, 2, 3, 3, and 6 letters), and Honoria got to start again. She found three N's for 3000 points to start off, bought the A's, and then missed with a D. Hitman took over and called R, E, T, I, H, M, X, G, O, and F before a Lose a Turn got him and gave the puzzle to Catspaws. She filled in the rest of the letters with two V's for 300 each, a Y for 1000, and a C for 450, then read what was on the board to solve it - ivory carving of Oni the taxman - for 2050 points.

Round 5 was our final puzzle tonight, and the category was On the Menu, 4 words (7, 4, 6, and 5 letters). Roselie got to start it and mixed spinning with buying vowels, revealing the N, R's, E, S, A, T, I, and L before deciding to solve - lasagna with garlic bread - for 3900 points more.

That brought us to the end of tonight's game. I added up the scores, and Roselie, our first-time player in the Phrase Game, had the top score with 9800 points, followed by Catspaws with 4150. Congratulations to Roselie on being tonight's big winner in the Fed Phrase Game. Join me again on February 21 at 10.00pm eastern for the next running of the Fed Phrase Game. And join me for FEDPARDY!, this time on Wednesday February 15, delayed one day to give room to our special events on Valentine's Day. Join us for those on the 14th, and then Fedpardy on the 15th at 10.00pm eastern.
