FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday March 21
by Fancy-Fancy

Four players joined me in Studio 1 to play tonight's Fed Phrase Game. Zand, Stirling, Kalandra, and Tweety all came out to play, while Humboldt, Robius, and Asterix watched the camera's broadcast on the channel. I went over the rules for our new players tonight, and once I verified that nobody had any lingering questions, I had them spin to determine their turn order. Stirling spun 1000 to go first, Tweety spun 400 to go second, Zand 300 to go third, and Kalandra a Lose a Turn ended up fourth in the order. Someone remarked that maybe the last would be first, and the first last, to Kalandra's position in the order.

Tonight's first puzzle was 5 word things (9, 5, 2, 2, and 10 letters). Stirling got to start it, and promptly landed on 1000 and found two S's. He bought the E's next, but then landed on a Bankrupt after that. Tweety took over and went the rest of the way with the puzzle, racking up 4700 points before solving it - mountains ready to be positioned.

Round 2's puzzle was a 5 word thing (4, 2, 8, 8, and 5 letters), and Zand got to start it. Two S's, four R's, and buying the (five) E's netted him 2350 points. Zand next landed on 1000, but there were no T's in the puzzle for him to take advantage. Kalandra eagerly spun, only to land on Lose a Turn. Stirling got the puzzle and placed a P and N for 500 points, then picked up a free spin with the L's. Stirling then bought the E's and O, using up his points before missing with a G. He elected to hold onto that free spin, and the turn passed to Tweety. Right then, Zand commented, "oh oh oh I know", and when Tweety picked M, which appeared twice for 1500 points, Zand thought aloud, "so does Tweety". But Tweety picked a B missing from the puzzle on her next spin, turning the puzzle over to Zand, who decided to solve without spinning again - Mark II Arkadium personal laser - for 2350 points.

Our third puzzle was a 4 word place (9, 2, 2, and 6 letters). Kalandra got to start it, and kept control all the way, picking S, T, N, R, E, D, and C to rack up 4800 points before solving the puzzle - Residence de St Honore - and taking over the overall lead.

Our fourth puzzle was a 3 word thing (5, 7, and 12 letters), and Stirling got to start us off. Stirling amassed 1650 points with 4 R's, 3 T's, an L for 1000, and buying the E's. He picked up a second free spin with an M, then bought the O. Stirling's next spin landed on a Bankrupt, erasing his points. He decided to use one of his free spins, and promptly got the points back and more with two C's for 1000 points each. Two S's and a P got another 1000 points. Stirling bought the last vowels with the A's before hitting yet another Bankrupt. Stirling decided to use his other free spin and got back 600 with a Y, before landing on 1000 and missing with a K. The puzzle looked like this at that point:

_ra__ Crystal Spectrometer

Tweety missed with a D, Zand with an F, and Kalandra with an N before Stirling filled in the first letter with a B. His next selection of a Z missed, as did Tweety's V. Zand landed on a Bankrupt, and Kalandra missed with an H before Stirling finally called G to fill in the last two blanks, and then read the puzzle - Bragg Crystal Spectrometer - for 1650 points.

Our fifth and final puzzle was 5 word things (6, 7, 2, 9, and 7 letters), and Tweety got to start it. She found 5 S's, two T's, and one B for 1450 points before missing with an N. Zand found 3 L's for 400 each before a Bankrupt promptly wiped it out. Kalandra inherited the puzzle and added the R's, E's, M, A's, and F's before deciding to solve - marble statues of classical figures - for 1600 points.

That brought us to the end of tonight's game. I added up the scores and the final totals were as follows:

Kalandra - 6400
Tweety - 4700
Zand - 2350
Stirling - 1650

Congratulations to Kalandra, tonight's big winner in the Fed Phrase Game. The last indeed did finish first tonight. Thanks to all who played and tuned in. Join us again on April 4 for a special edition of the Fed Phrase Game, in which you'll get a chance to play against me as we get April Foolishness in Fed underway. And on March 28, I'll be hosting one more edition of Fedpardy before you get a chance to play against me in a special edition of that on April 11.
