MAGELLAN CUP

Saturday April 1
by Fancy-Fancy

I hosted tonight's special April Foolishness edition of the Magellan Cup, giving Robius a chance to play in it, and he, along with Jessecka, Stirling, Tweety, Asterix, and Occy, joined me at the starting line on Magellan. I explained how in the Magellan Cup, I provide a clue to the first of three checkpoints in a particular place on a particular planet, and the players search for the checkpoint. Upon finding it, they get the clue to the next checkpoint, until they have found all three checkpoints, and then go back to the starting line which doubles as the finish line to complete the race. With everybody ready, I gave them the first clue, and fired the starting gun:

Clue 1: Every king has his castle, and every king had his fool. And where did the fool stay? At the castle, of course. This one's more trick than treat.

It didn't take our players long to find that checkpoint, as Robius found it first, quickly followed by Stirling, then Jessecka. They received the second clue there:

Clue 2: Anyone who tells you there's a creature in this lagoon is fooling you. In fact, I'd say he's lyin', appropriately enough.

Robius and Jessecka quickly found the second checkpoint. A grand total of 3 minutes had passed by the time they found the first two checkpoints and received the third clue:

Clue 3: Ship carrying red paint collided with ship carrying blue paint. The crew was stranded. No wait, that wasn't it... Anyway, there are enough gags here to keep a joker satisfied for years, let alone one day.

Jessecka found the third checkpoint, and then crossed the finish line to take first place in tonight's race! It took her about 4 1/2 minutes to complete the race. Meanwhile the other racers kept looking. It took a while, but finally Asterix found the first checkpoint, and seconds after, Robius found the third and started for the finish line. Robius finished the race at about the 13 minute mark. Asterix quickly found the second checkpoint after that, and went looking for the third. That turned out to be the last checkpoint found by our racers, however. Stirling looked for the second checkpoint, and Asterix the third for the better part of the next half hour, but neither one found their goal, and both returned to the starting line and gave up the search, so I called the race then.

Here are the solutions to tonight's clues:

Clue 1: Every king has his castle, and every king had his fool. And where did the fool stay? At the castle, of course. This one's more trick than treat.
This checkpoint was on the planet Halloween, as the use of trick and treat in the same breath suggested, and the place to find was "In front of the Castle".

Clue 2: Anyone who tells you there's a creature in this lagoon is fooling you. In fact, I'd say he's lyin', appropriately enough.
This checkpoint was at the Lagoon on an island on the planet Lyon, with the clue providing a sound-alike.

Clue 3: Ship carrying red paint collided with ship carrying blue paint. The crew was stranded. No wait, that wasn't it... Anyway, there are enough gags here to keep a joker satisfied for years, let alone one day.
The real punchline to that joke is "The crew was marooned." And the place to find was The Acme Factory on Maroon.

Congratulations to Jessecka and Robius, our first and second place winners in tonight's race! Asterix was the furthest along of the other racers for third. Can you solve clues like these? Join us on April 15 at 10.00pm eastern when Robius once again hosts the Magellan Cup for your next chance to find out.
