CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday April 30
by Catspaws

Easter has come and gone, April Foolishness has come and gone, and it's too soon to expect the kittens to start showering me with Mothers' Day presents. After a week of eating too much Easter candy, I decided to explore for a Sol eatery where I could safely eat without upsetting my fragile tummy. Unfortunately, the Canteen on Titan was a bad choice...

Eventually things calmed down, and I was ready to host another session of Cryptograms. The crowd was small this week, consisting of four of our regulars. Fancy was, of course, present, as was Caesar. Gwaptiva was ready to prove he was better at Cryptograms than some think he is, and Gilar was set to take back the Cryptogram crown from Fancy.

Settling in, we began our first puzzle, in which Gwaptiva shone, and Gilar snapped up the first place points.

BIOLOGICAL COMMODITIES:
G U Q X Q G P
O Q Y G Y H N Y X L X A P
U C O Y I C A Y I Q L P
O Q Y G M Q N P
N I Y O L P
A I C G L I P

I was ready to strut around the room when Gwaptiva beat out Fancy in the second puzzle, and Gilar placed third.

NAMES OF FINANCIERS:
F N P Z
C H D E
L H H E
Q S P D D X E
Y U N F I C W N
Z E B B D N

I love good gossip, and I could create quite a fictional story around these six entrants in the Hall of Shame. Fancy, Gilar and Gwaptiva figured them out in record time.

MEMBERS OF THE HALL OF SHAME - http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/info/fame.html:
D G X Z N X X R
E N U
R C R
I Z T O R B U
T R O E R X H N D
L R X K G / R X T / L N O O N O Z

The fourth puzzle wasn't all that difficult, and Gilar, Fancy and Gwaptiva didn't have much trouble figuring it out. At this point, Gilar and Fancy were tied for first place, and I was holding my breath. Would Gilar beat out Fancy again?

CHAPTERS IN THE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO FEDERATION - http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/online.html:
P N E N U R Z / O W M E U I O E Z
W F F X R M E Z
W T K R O E Z / I M F / X W T L Q R Z
P L M F L M J / S W N U / A I S
O W X Y I M S / X I M I J R X R M E
X I D L M J / Y U W J U R Z Z

With an obvious starting point of R=A (the single letter appearing in most of the entries) Gilar secured the first place trophy for the second time. Fancy and Gwaptiva finished the puzzle as well.

THINGS YOU MIGHT DO IN AN EXCHANGE:
U M E / R / F R V B A D M K B
Y J C M J N R S B / R / G M S M V B K
U M E / R / N B I D S
K B Y Y / R / L D Z Z D N J S E
L A B L P / D H / R / I V J L B
Z D H J S D V / R L S J O J S E

When the scores were tallied, Gilar had beat out Fancy by a single point, and my favorite, Gwaptiva, had finished third. Join me each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern for Cryptograms, and if you want the answer to this week's puzzles, you can email me at Catspaws_Fed@sbcglobal.net.
