CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday May 13
by Catspaws

The week was rather quiet, compared to the one before. Well, other than Lynnea's temper tantrum over my report last week, but even she can't deny that I gave an accurate report on the events on Lair. The mouse and I remain exiled from the Secret system, but that's okay. We can always check on our presents behind the wine barrels in the wine sink on Sauterne. Ahem...

Gilar chose our restaurant this week, which, to my delight, was Jerrit's Mad House on Brass. I love the chicken baskets there, and I would love to convince Jerrit to open a franchise on Catseye. (Does Rhea have any special chickens I can ste-- buy?)

Our regulars joined us this week, including Gwaptiva, who seems to get better by the week. Gilar put up a slithy tove as a prize for anyone other than Fancy who could beat him. I should note that with the web site down, this week's game was a bit harder than usual as everyone had to rely on memory.

Fancy finished the list first for 3+6 points, Gradon finished second for 2+6 points, Gwaptiva (!) finished third for 1+6 points, and Gilar finished fourth for 6 points.

BIOLOGICAL COMMODITIES:
M J R V S J N
N S E N K J N
P G K V K Z U K E S E M N
V O G E G V N
M K F G V Z B E V C S J N
Z G V J K N V R O U S O N

For the second puzzle, I wanted to salute our brave adventurers who travel Sol looking for fame and fortune as they hand over pairs of red slippers in the strangest places. Gwaptiva finished this puzzle first for 3+6 points! Fancy finished second for 2+6 points, Gradon got 5 points, and Gilar received 2 points.

NAMES OF CURRENT ADVENTURERS:
F S E H X G O C H E
U H E C O V I S E B
U X J V G N U X
F J Z X Q R
J M X T S M Q
E S M V H V

Fed isn't just about hauling and visiting. We have some really fun games we play each week. So for the next puzzle, I decided to remind everyone of the weekly games in Fed. Fancy, being head of the event team, finished the puzzle first, followed by Gradon, Gilar and Gwaptiva. Fancy now had a solid lead, but with the new scoring system, that could change fast.

OFFICIAL FED GAME EVENTS:
V J W B / D L W Z O E H U
P U B X Z W B A
O Z N U H H Z Q / L K X
P U B / X I W Z D U / N Z O U
P U B B U W N J W T U D
L W A X R J N W Z O D

As an adventurer, there were certain Akaturi job locations that I loved, like the Flush Toilet on Sumatra. (Ask the Water Authority why I was banned from the planet sometime. Ahem...) Fancy, Gradon and Gwaptiva finished this puzzle, and Gilar drew a total blank, claiming he preferred not to remember that dark time.

UNPOPULAR AKATURI JOBS:
B K M M ' N / U F Z
O S D B T ' N / O S N D P U
M S P E / C S L U N
K X S P / J K O W / G S O U
J B U S / M E K P K C E O S P / P S M N
D B J U U / U D B F E O N / S F Z / S / H S N X

For our final puzzle I dipped into the realm of planet builds. For a starting point, I suggested doing a DI PLANET CATSEYE to get an idea of the names of a couple of builds. This puzzle was much more difficult without the web site for reference, but Gradon solved it first, Gilar second, Fancy third, and Gwaptiva fourth.

PLANET BUILDS:
I U H T J R W J X U
X H Z Q U R Z W A / B U P U Q L U / E Z D U D
D L I J J H D
L H T Q T L D
I J D X T R Z H D
R U H U X I J Q U

When the scores were tallied, Fancy finished first, Gradon finished second and won the slithy, Gwaptiva finished third, and Gilar finished fourth.

We play Cryptograms every Saturday at 4.00pm eastern. Join us next week and see who can take the crown from Fancy. And, if you want the answer to this week's puzzles, you can send me an email at catspaws_fed@sbcglobal.net.
