REAL LIFE NEWS: BEWARE THE SIXTH OF JUNE

Last Tuesday was not a good day for people who suffer from hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. That's because the word means a fear of the number "666" - and Tuesday was June 6, 2006 - or 6606, or possibly, if you stretch dating conventions to the limit, 666.

There was much ballyhoo in the popular media about this, and marketing weasels in a number of fields decided to take advantage of it by releasing related product on that day - for example, the appalling remake of the classic horror film The Omen.

It is a completely meaningless date, of course, but just one of those interesting patterns that human beings attach significance to!
