REAL LIFE NEWS: HOW TO STALK YOUR CHILDREN

It's 10.00pm - do you know where your child is? In the future, you will be able to find out, if you subscribe to a new service from Verizon. Give them $20 a month and they will turn your kids' cell phones into child-tracking devices by using the same technology that pinpoints your location when you dial 911.

Parents can use this Chaperone service to find out where their children are, and to set geographical boundary limits and get text alerts if their little darlings cross the line.

Sounds great, except that it's not really tracking the child, it is tracking the phone, so smart kids will leave the mobile in the school locker, or get a friend to look after it, while they go out on the razzle.

There's also something a bit creepy about monitoring where somebody goes all the time, and I can't help wondering if this technology could be perverted to allow disgruntled ex-boyfriends to stalk the girls that spurned them.
