FEDPARDY!

Tuesday June 20
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's Fedpardy. Ondine, Nolepaul, and Jameson all showed up. As Jameson was new to the game, I started by explaining the rules of the game and how to play. With that done, and no questions on how to play, I had the players spin the wheel for the initial selection, and Ondine gained that. I then revealed tonight's categories, which were: Take a P, Paradise City, Akaturi Items, and In the Event. Ondine used the first selection to take Akaturi Items for 1, and we were underway.

Ondine scored the first point of the game with the answer she picked, only to fall into the hole by missing on the 3 point answer in the same category. She then found the first Daily Double of the game in Akaturi Items, and she decided to make the answer worth 3 points. The answer was:

The model of the computer an Akaturi courier gets asked to carry from one place to another at times.

Ondine responded correctly to get back on the plus side, only to slip back in the hole when she tried the 5 point answer and missed. With the category of Akaturi Items finished, Ondine selected Take a P, and the players proceeded through that category in ascending point order, with the 1 point answer getting passed, Ondine scoring the 2, Jameson the 3, only to miss the 4, and Nolepaul got on the board by ringing in and responding correctly to the 5 point answer. That gave Nolepaul the lead at the break with 5, to -1 for Jameson and -2 for Ondine. As Ondine was the one trailing at the break, she got the first selection of Double Fedpardy.

Ondine started Double Fedpardy with Paradise City for 2, and got out of the hole with her selection. She soon found the second Daily Double of the game under Paradise City for 6. She decided to risk 3 point on it, and this was her answer:

More than a dozen of these are precariously piled in a heap. Some spill out across the table, some boast the remnants of wax seals and ribbon. None seem to be in any language you can read.

She again responded correctly to the Daily Double and got on the plus side. She followed that up by ringing in and correctly questioning the 8 point answer to take the lead. Everyone passed on trying the 10 point answer in that category, leaving In the Event. Jameson got the 2 point answer to get out of his hole, and after everyone passed on the 4 pointer, he grabbed the 6 point answer after Ondine missed it. Ondine rebounded by getting the 8 point answer, and Double Fedpardy ended the same way the Fedpardy round ended, with Nolepaul ringing in and correctly responding to a maximum point value answer. That made the scores at the end of Double Fedpardy:

Nolepaul: 15
Ondine: 13
Jameson: 7

All three players advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the opportunity to wager as many of their points as they wished. To help them decide how much they wanted to wager, their category for Final Fedpardy was Objects and Mobiles. Once all the wagers were in, I had explained how Final Fedpardy works, and the players all verified they were ready, I revealed tonight's clue:

With this role-playing object, you actually stand a chance of making a groat or two when using it.

Jameson responded with, "what is lucky louie?" While you can make a few groats playing that, it's not a role-playing object, so his answer was incorrect. Jameson wagered all 7 of his points, leaving him with zero.

We moved to Ondine next. Her response was, "what are dice?" Another good guess, but unfortunately for her, not the right one. Ondine wagered 3 points, leaving her with 10.

That brought us to the leader coming in, Nolepaul. He responded with, "What is the ATM Machine?" That wasn't it, either. Sometimes when playing with the tap shoes you'll put on a great performance that someone in your audience will toss you a 2 groat piece that you catch and keep. That was the correct response to this answer. Nolepaul wagered 5 points, leaving him with 10 points as well. That resulted in the first final tie for first place in Fedpardy in memory, if ever. Congratulations to this week's co-champions, Nolepaul and Ondine! Thanks also to Jameson for participating tonight. Our next edition of Fedpardy falls on the 4th of July. I'll have a game ready to go for that night, in case there are enough players eager to play that night. Meanwhile, be sure to join us for the Fed Phrase Game on June 27, starting at 10.00pm eastern.
