CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday September 9
by Catspaws

Cryptograms and Rhea has a long and spectacular history. Rhea was the original home of the Catseye felines, who were introduced to Rhea society to keep the vermin under control in the fields of Rhea. Rhea is also the original home of the dairy cows that inhabit Catseye and supply the well-deserving felines of the Chrysoberyl system with nourishing milk.

My presence on Rhea this day was not, as some might think, an attempt to recruit fresh meat for the citizens of my planet. Not at all! I was there for... a relaxing meal in Art's Bistro. Yeah, that's why I was there! I'm sure Gwarrior, who tends to reside in the Bistro, would be glad to vouch for me. Any beef cattle who might have disappeared did so without my assistance. Honest!

Anyway, since Gwarrior was sleeping upon my arrival, I decided this might be the perfect spot for this week's game, which ran longer than usual (too long) but was nonetheless interesting. We were pleased to welcome a new player to our midst, Waters, who seemed to have a bit of a talent for the game.

Icey, Stirling and Zand solved the first puzzle ahead of Caesar and Waters.

SYSTEMS BEGINNING WITH "R" (DI SYSTEMS):
QJTRS
QRDJHQRDU
QJYVQH
QALJQ
QNYYAR
QAOJT

Icey and Zand traded places in solving the second puzzle, which Waters also solved.

PLAYERS WHOSE NAMES BEGIN WITH "R" (DI COMPANIES, QW):
CPJHDEDAR
CPBJPG
CZQHAB

Zand and Stirling each solved the next puzzles, which involved a favorite pasttime of mine.

SOL PLANETS WITH THE BEST PUBS:
VLYRPPLJ
ANRL
RLAGN
WALXX
VLAX
VRAUCAF

The next puzzle, which has always been a favorite of mine for the simple reason it stumps a lot of people, did, in fact, stump Caesar, although Zand seemed to have no trouble with it.

HCQTDBA / SMII / OACTRP / IDIFAQI
ILTABMRB / MPHAIFQAPFI
LBKXMP / WD / FXA IAC

For the final puzzle, which Zand solved (of course), we dealt with a topic of interest to new players and old.

TUN / Y / RBGDC / GD / NWU / ZYDNGDY
RI / NWU / QYTUEEYD / PVUFN
ZWYN / ID / NWU / ZIQQF / GD / QIRUBYNGID

When the scores were tallied, Zand came in first, Caesar came in second, and Icey and Stirling tied for third. We play Cryptograms every Saturday at 4.00pm eastern. Be sure to join Fed's favorite game hostess for the next game. For now, I must find some feed for some beef cattle...
