GEEK TOY: THE SUN JAR
How's this for a way to really save daylight. The sun jar looks like a jam jar, but instead of jam it stores light. During the day, it absorbs the sun's heat; then when it gets dark, it gives the energy back as light. You don't have to do anything, just put it on a handy windowsill and let it do its thing. It would make a great porch light, a nightlight for kids, or how about taking it camping so you don't have to worry about wires or batteries?
