ACME SYSTEM CLOSED AFTER VISITORS STRANDED

by Dot Matrix

It was with much fanfare that Occy finally opened up his new planet Occyland, in the Acme system, last week. This was a momentous occasion, since his promotion to Founder released an enormous packet of shares back onto the market. That other long-time Financier, Arlene, was seen cherry-picking the best of the newly-available stocks and snapped up some choice offerings, enriching his holdings considerably!

Visitors flocked to the new system to take a look at this long-anticipated planet - there had been speculation about how eccentric it would be, given the reputation of the new PO.

It wasn't long before they found out!

The owner had not only built two hospitals on the planet - and one of them in an out-of-the-way rocky corridor - he'd somehow managed to construct an additional interstellar link on the surface of his planet, causing massive warping effects in the space-time continuum. Visitors who walked into the link found themselves jumping through hyperspace to other systems without their spaceships! Luckily, the vac suit capabilities of the standard nano-chameleon suit prevented anybody from dying in the cold vacuum of space, but many people found themselves stranded and had to be rescued by an emergency team from Earth's Nightwatch, who reluctantly stirred themselves to haul those affected back to Sol, where they were deposited none too gently into the dormitories as if they were mere vagrants.

Health and Safety inspectors were immediately sent to Occyland and, in conjunction with the Trading Guild, they determined that the planet was a hazard and the system should be closed forthwith. The interstellar link was shut down (both the real one in space and the extraneous one on the planet) and a formal notice issued to the PO that he should fix the defects and remove the dangerous planetary link before opening Acme again.

It took a few days, but now Occy's system is open and there have been no further incidents of travellers becoming lost in the space-time continuum. The hazard warning has been lifted by the Health and Safety inspectors so visitors are now exploring Occyland in safety.
