FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday March 20
by Fancy-Fancy, Engineer of Toontown

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's Fed Phrase Game. Sephorin, Captainfuzzy, and Ariadne came to the studio to play. As each of them were returning players who already knew how to play, we got right into the game. Spins to determine turn order placed Captainfuzzy first in the order, followed by Sephorin, then Ariadne.

The first puzzle was a 5 word phrase (10, 2, 9, 2, and 11 letters), with Captainfuzzy starting. He added several letters and bought all the vowels in the puzzle along the way, getting up to 6100 points before spinning once more and landing on a Bankrupt. Sephorin took over and racked up 4900 points by filling in all but one remaining letter and solved - everything is protected by forcefields - to make those 4900 points permanent. Captainfuzzy noted his points were an exception to what the forcefields protected.

Our second puzzle was a 4 word phrase (4, 4, 8, and 8 letters), and Ariadne got to start it. Ariadne tried an N, but it wasn't in the puzzle. Nor was a T for Fuzzy, after he found 3 R's. Sephorin placed a pair of S's, and bought the E's, but tried an H not in the puzzle. Ariadne found a pair of M's for 1500 points, only to have them wiped out with a Bankrupt on her next spin. Captainfuzzy hit a Lose a Turn space, and Sephorin missed with a B. Ariadne got the puzzle back and picked up a Free Spin with the D's. She added some points to go with it with an F for 700, three C's for 1000 each, an L for 200, and a Y for 600, leaving only vowels. She solved it there - made from recycled discards - to claim 4500 points for Round 2.

Our next puzzle was Food & Drink - 3 words (6, 3, and 5 letters), and we were back to Captainfuzzy to start it. His first spin, though, was a Bankrupt, turning the puzzle over to Sephorin. She found a T for 100, but then no S. Ariadne took over, with a carried-over Free Spin, and landed on Lose a Turn. She decided to use her free spin there, and landed on another Free Spin, which she picked up with a D. She called an N missing from the puzzle on her next spin, and again decided to use her free spin to continue her turn. She landed on 700 and found two R's before landing on another Lose a Turn, ending her turn this time. Captainfuzzy got the puzzle back only to land on another Bankrupt, and then Sephorin hit another Lose a Turn, giving the puzzle right back to Ariadne. But she couldn't find any F's, Fuzzy called a missing P, and Sephorin a missing M. Finally Ariadne called L on a 150 spin, and found two of them. She bought the E's, then called a J and Y, and then solved - bright red jelly - for 1900 points more and the lead.

We had time for one more puzzle, and it was 4 word things (4, 5, 5, and 5 letters), with Captainfuzzy again starting the puzzle. He found the R's and N before calling T, which was not in the puzzle. Sephorin placed an S and L for 350, giving her enough to buy the E's. Her next spin landed on Lose a Turn, and Ariadne got a shot. She found a pair of P's for 600, and bought the A's, then landed on a Lose a Turn of her own. Captainfuzzy spun 1000, and tried a C, but there were none. Sephorin landed on Free Spin, and picked it up with a pair of B's. She then spun 750, but there were no G's. She turned in her free spin and landed on 750 again, but there were no M's this time, and Ariadne got the puzzle back. Ariadne added the remaining consonants, D for 750, and K for 700, then solved - real, bound, paper books - for another 1800 points.

That took us to the end of our allotted hour, and I added up the scores. In second tonight was Sephorin, with 4900 points. And tonight's big winner, with 8200 points, was Ariadne! Thanks to all our players for coming out tonight, and I hope you'll join me for our next edition of the Fed Phrase Game on April 3, starting at 10.00pm eastern. And on March 27, we'll play FEDPARDY! in Studio 1 beginning at 10.00pm eastern.
