REAL LIFE NEWS: ROBOTIC BIRDS SCARE OFF PIGEONS

by Hazed

Liverpool city council is mounting a serious campaign to rid the city of pigeons before next year, when the north of England city becomes the European Capital of Culture for twelve months. The city's pigeons are a huge nuisance and are getting fatter because the public feed them leftovers.

So how are the flying feathered vermin going to be dealt with? By bringing in some mechanical birds called Robops. These robo-birds will sit on the roofs of buildings, where they will squawk and flap their wings. Because they look like Peregrine Falcons, which are a natural predator of pigeons, they should scare the pigeons away from the buildings and encourage them to move into the parks and open spaces instead.

Councillor Bernie Turner said, "Feral pigeons are a real nuisance in the city center, they fly up at people and they leave droppings everywhere." The city council uses the equivalent of 88 man hours a day cleaning droppings from streets and buildings, which costs £160,000, so you can see why they want to move the vermin on. Let's hope the robo-hawks do the trick.
