CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday March 24
by Catspaws

Adventurer was actually a fun rank for me, even though I completed the rank back in the dark ages when we did 800 (I think it was) while walking Sol using jet packs because ships hadn't been invented, and we had to hold our breaths between planets. I loved the Hobb's End runs, because I love the feel of the wind in my fur. But what I loved most was the Flush Toilet on Sumatra. I have an intense fascination for all that nice swirling water, and I flushed that toilet so much that the Sumatra Water Authority banned me from the planet. I think there are still wanted posters lying around Sumatra, and to this day I have to sneak onto the planet when they're not looking. So, when I finally developed my own world, a flush toilet was naturally a priority. The oceans of Catseye ensure there is never a water shortage, and no one can ban me from Catseye. Be sure to visit my own special Flush Toilet which is located north of the Hair of the Dog Bar and Pub. Just be careful not to upset some of my resident cats.

I invited everyone to Catseye this week to watch the swirling water, and to play a game of Cryptograms. We only had three actual players, including the returning Gradon who has been absent and sorely missed from Cryptograms for a while, but we had lots of spectators. Cryptograms really isn't that difficult a game, and I write lots of easy puzzles. Just ask anyone...

I was feeling lucky this week, so each puzzle dealt with the lucky number seven. Fancy beat out Gradon and Ariadne (of course!). He also solved the second puzzle first, but Gradon and Ariadne both solved the third puzzle before Fancy could. Astonishing, I know, but 'tis true. Gradon also solved the fourth puzzle before Fancy, but Fancy came back in the last puzzle, tying with Gradon. I pondered a tie breaker, but this was such an astonishing event, that I decided not to risk Gradon losing the tie breaker, so I declared Fancy and Gradon BOTH winners, with Ariadne the runner up.

We play Cryptograms each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern. If you always wanted to learn how to play, you can practice on the puzzles in the back issues of the Star. They're there for that purpose. I hope to see you all next week, and perhaps someone will beat Fancy...
