REAL LIFE NEWS: I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU... BEEP!

by Hazed

Fed players are well known for holding in-game weddings officiated by all kinds of beings - humans, aliens, droids, you name it - so this story doesn't sound at all weird and wacky. Except that in the real world, registrars do tend to be flesh and blood. At least, up to now...

Korean roboticists have announced that a robot has now officiated at a wedding. The Droid registrar is called Tiro and according to Hanool Robotics, it was due to officiate when an engineer at the company, Seak Gyeong-jae, got hitched to his blushing bride in the city of Daejeon, 120km south of Seoul.

Tiro costs 200m won, which is about $200,000. It has a female voice and there are plans to upgrade it so it can be used for other purposes, besides presiding over nuptials. The report doesn't say what purposes - DJ, perhaps, or compere for a cabaret?

It's nice to see scientists coming up with non-military uses for robots. They shouldn't all be put to work spying on us or shooting intruders.
