REAL LIFE NEWS: GOOGLE LAUNCHES INTO SPACE

Not content with conquering the Earth, Google have launched a new service called Google Sky which allows users to scan the night sky from various locations around the world, to look for constellations, planets, and other extraterrestrial delights.

Google Sky is an add-on to Google Earth. You can now switch between the ground-bound view and the space view. The Sky view offers an upwards view with seven optional layers:

  • Constellations
  • Backyard astronomy - objects visible to the eye and to small telescopes
  • Hubble showcase - 129 high-res pics taken by the Hubble telescope
  • Moon - two months of lunar positions and phases
  • User's Guide to Galaxies - virtual tours of galaxies
  • Life of a star
  • Planets - the positions of seven planets

It seems to have a few teething problems but it's still a very cool new feature!
