REAL LIFE NEWS: MACHINE LOVE

by Hazed

Sometimes when looking for stories to go into the Fed2 Star, I find something that makes me go "Huh? That can't be true!" One such is a recent report that some owners of the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner have formed emotional attachments to the gadgets - giving them names, dressing them up, and feeling worried when they signal for help. Treating them like pets, or even children! How very sad.

Then I thought about it and realized that it's all too likely to be true. Men have been falling in love with their cars ever since they were invented, and people have formed very strong attachments to electronic pets like those dratted tamagotchi things. Still, I can't imagine a vacuum cleaner inspiring quite the same feelings! Sure, I would love to have one, because I am lazy and I want someone (or something) else to do all my housework for me, but I don't think I'd fall in love with it...

If you want to read more about this story - which I feel certain is, if not complete rubbish, at least an exaggeration - you can, here.
