FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday October 30
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

Six players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Lagkiller, Sephorin, Oberon, Dennotairn, Trilleth, and Stiddleficks came to play, while Raghnall watched in studio and Hobob watched on the channel. Everybody already seemed to know the rules and how to play, so we skipped right to determining what order they would take their turns. Lagkiller got first, Sephorin second, Trilleth third, Oberon fourth, and Dennotairn fifth in the order. Stiddleficks arrived with Round 1 underway, and was added after Dennotairn in the order.

The puzzle for Round 1 was a 5 word place (5, 6, 7, 8, and 4 letters). Lagkiller started off finding 3 S's for 2100 points to start, but then the wheel started landing on some of the turn-ending spaces, something it didn't do at all two editions ago. Lagkiller and Sephorin hit back-to-back Lose a Turns. Trilleth placed a T and two R's before hitting another Lose a Turn. Oberon found an L, but then missed with an H. Dennotairn tried a K that wasn't in the puzzle. Finally Stiddleficks got on a roll once she got hold of the puzzle. She started by collecting a free spin on her first spin with a pair of C's. She added an N and P before calling a B that wasn't in the puzzle. She used her free spin and bought the E's, which seemed to help greatly and helped her call G, F, and D next, and then solve - Toxic coffee grounds disposal area - for 3200 points. Stiddleficks left after that, but her 3200 points were secure for this game.

Tonight's second puzzle was a 6 word thing (7, 8, 4, 1, 5, and 9 letters), and we were back to Lagkiller to start this one. Lagkiller amassed an impressive total of 7400 points with calls of S, R, T, N, G, E, A (spelling out the first word), then C and H. He turned out to be prophetic when he said, "I am gonna regret this...," before spinning once more, and landing on Lose a Turn. Sephorin inherited the puzzle and placed the remaining consonants, W, L, and M for 1350 points and a free spin, and then solved - strange creature with a large moustache - to take Round 2 and make those 1350 points permanent.

Our third puzzle was a 5 word thing (5, 7, 4, 11, and 5 letters), which Trilleth got to start. Trilleth found 4 T's, 3 S's, and 5 R's for 3250 points before the wheel again stopped on Lose a Turn, turning it over to Oberon. Oberon tried and L that wasn't in the puzzle, and Dennotairn found out the same thing about the N. Lagkiller got a hold of this puzzle and went the rest of the way, placing two M's for 2000, three H's for another 1800, bought the E's, A, and I's, then with a bit of nervousness about spinning further, landed on 600 for a C, and 400 for an F, at which point he decided to solve - Earth history from prehistoric times - to take the lead with 4050 points.

We had time for one more puzzle, and our finale was 7 word people (7, 5, 3, 2, 1, 5, and 3 letters). Sephorin was up next to start this one, carrying over a free spin from round 2. She spun 700 and called S, but there weren't any in the puzzle. She decided to hold onto her free spin a little longer, and the turn passed to Trilleth, who landed on Bankrupt. Oberon found a pair of T's for 600 points each, only to have a Bankrupt take the points right back. Dennotairn got the puzzle and called H, N, R, F, and a missing L, which ended his turn. Lagkiller spun up 350, but there were no C's for him. Sephorin got the puzzle back again and spun 500 for her call of a B, but that wasn't in the puzzle, either. She decided to use her free spin there, and found an M for 300. She bought the A's, then realized the category was people, not person. It didn't matter, as there were four A's, after which she placed two G's for 600 each and bought the E's, of which there were six. With the puzzle reading:

___ene_ Earth men _f a great age

Sephorin tried to figure out the first word. She correctly guessed a D at the end of it for 750. She guessed X next, but there was no X, and Trilleth, who upon seeing the G's hinted that she knew the puzzle, got her shot. Trilleth placed a W for 150, and a Z for 200 more, leaving only vowels, and then solved - wizened Earth men of a great age - to take Round 4 for 350 points.

That brought us to the end of our allotted time, and I totalled the scores. Tonight's final scores were:

Lagkiller - 4050
Stiddleficks - 3200
Sephorin - 1350
Trilleth - 350

Congratulations to all our winners tonight, but especially Lagkiller as the big winner! Thanks also to Oberon and Dennotairn for playing, and to our audience. I hope you'll join us again November 13, starting at 10 p.m. Eastern, for another edition of the Fed Phrase Game. I remind everyone that FEDPARDY! is scheduled for the 6th in Studio 1, also at 10.00pm eastern.
