What do an elephant on drugs, a fake crashing plane, and a turkey head on a stick have in common? They are all involved in some of the strangest scientific experiments ever carried out. New Scientist magazine has collected together the details of ten crazy experiments, and they make very entertaining reading.

It's easy to mock when you read about these extremely wacky boffins, but sometimes trying something weird does lead to brilliant discoveries. Not in these cases, though!
