REAL LIFE NEWS: WHY YOU SHOULDN'T STOP YOUR KIDS PLAYING COMPUTER GAMES

by Hazed

If you are a parent you might think it's a good idea to limit the amount of time your little darling spends playing computer games. Maybe you have even considered confiscating his (I was about to type "or her" but this kind of story is inevitably about a boy...) Playstation. Well this story tells you: don't!

A teenager from Maryland last week admitted he had plotted to hire a hitman to murder his mother and stepfather after they prevented him from spending time on his Playstation.

Corey Ryder, who was 17 years old, told the local juvenile court he had been involved in attempting to persuade a man who he thought was a contract killer to do away with his mean parents. Unfortunately, the hitman was actually an undercover cop.

The plot had blown apart when the mother of one of the boy's friends overheard Ryder discussing the murder of his own mother, and reported it to the police. A plain-clothes policeman posed as an assassin and arranged to meet with the boy, who was 16 at the time. Police claim that the agent was offered payment in the form of the pick-up truck belonging to his father. That was enough to get Ryder arrested.

So why did he want his mom and step-dad offed? Because they had punished him by confiscating his games console, banning him from watching TV, and not allowing him out of the house. Reports do not say what he had done to warrant such treatment, but now that he's in the clutches of the law, you can bet his punishments are going to be far more severe! He faces a sentence of up to four years in a juvenile detention center.
