ALAN'S TESLA PROGRESS REPORT

by Hazed

A few weeks ago I told you that Alan was working on a new version of the Tesla planet checker, as the first part of producing a new set of workbench tools that will allow Moguls to add objects and events to your planets.

The intention is to add a whole new set of checks to Tesla, so it identifies all of the problems that we currently have to check by hand (or equivalent). But rather than just adding the new checks onto the old Tesla code, Alan is going back to square one and rewriting the program from scratch. The reason for this is that he wants to use a new program to develop the graphic interface, which will allow him to provide versions of Tesla for the Mac and for Linux, as well as for Windows.

He has now got the new version to the stage where it does everything that the old version of Tesla does - I have been spending some time testing it. It's not easy to deliberately introduce errors into a planet map, believe me!

Now he's caught up, so to speak, he can proceed with adding in the new checks - things like checking there are no space flags set on a planet file, or that a planet only has one exchange! I hope we'll see the new version ready to be released in a couple of weeks.
