FEDPARDY!

Tuesday January 1
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

I got three players for the 2008 premiere of FEDPARDY! Squeeky, Monodefuego, and Gandolf came to Studio 1, ready to play. The players requested a refresher on the rules, so I gave them one, and then revealed the categories I had for tonight: Out with the "Old", In with the New, Deck the Halls, and Take a P. Gandolf won the right to select first, and selected Take a P for 1.

Nobody tried that one, so Gandolf selected In with the New for 2 next. Squeeky got that one, and then the 1, 3, and 4 point answers as well before finding the first Daily Double under the 5 point answer to finish the category. Squeeky decided to risk 5 points on it, and this was the answer:

Whereas keeping out undesirables was treated as a game management issue in the old Fed, it is now handled and enforced by the game code with this command.

Squeeky couldn't come up with it, though Gandolf was able to say the correct response, EXILE (though not for points). Squeeky went back to Take a P for 2 points, and Monodefuego got on the board with that one. It selected the 3 and 4 point answers next, with Gandolf trying and missing on the 3, but getting the 4 right. Gandolf made the final selection of the first half, Out with the "Old" for 3, and both he and Squeeky lost 3 points by getting it wrong. At the break, Squeeky and Monodefuego were tied at 2 for the lead, with Gandolf at -2, and getting first selection for Double Fedpardy.

With all remaining answers on the board having their point values doubled, Gandolf picked Out with the "Old" for 4, only to miss it. He picked the 2 point answer next, and Mono got it, and then the 8 pointer after that. Nobody attempted the 10 in that category, but Squeeky then got the 10 pointer in Take a P. That left the Deck the Halls category. Nobody attempted the 2 point answer, but Mono and Squeeky both tried and missed on the 4, and then Squeeky found the other Daily Double under the 6. It decided to risk 2 points, and this was the answer:

This place has been decorated in the Christmas spirit, with happy wishes in many different languages above the bar.

Squeeky didn't identify the right place, though (the correct place was Lucky Seven), and dropped behind Mono. The 8 point answer was the next selection, and Mono rang in and got it to pull further ahead. The final answer, Deck the Halls for 10, was not attempted by anyone, bringing us to the end of Double Fedpardy. Monodefuego led with 16, trailed by Squeeky with 6, and Gandolf with -6. I thanked Gandolf for playing, but he would not be joining Mono and Squeeky in Final Fedpardy. Meanwhile, Monodefuego and Squeeky decided their Final Fedpardy wagers based on the category of Colorful Colonies. Once they had placed their wagers and verified they were ready, I presented tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

Players are warned that disks of this color on the Lattice often lead to areas lethal to both organic and non-organic beings.

Squeeky at first wrote "what is the lattice", but crossed that out and replaced it with "what is the color red". A good move, as that change made its response correct, on a wager of all 6 points, making its score 12.

Monodefuego also wrote down, "What is red?" for its response, and wagered 1 point, boosting its score to 17. That ensured that Monodefuego was our first Fedpardy champion of 2008!

Congratulations to Monodefuego on winning first place, and Squeeky on taking second. Join us again on January 15 at 10.00pm eastern for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY!
