FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday January 22
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

Four players came to Studio 1 for what turned out to be our actual 2008 premiere of the Fed Phrase Game, and what a game we had tonight! I had not one, but two slithy toves handed to me to award to tonight's winner, and Angelfowl, Sephorin, Trilleth, and Smitty were all present to play, with Joe watching in the studio. I went over the rules for our new players, and when there were no more questions on how to play, I had the players spin for their position in the order. Trilleth got the first slot, followed by Angelfowl, Sephorin, and Smitty.

Tonight's first puzzle was 5 word people (6, 6, 2, 5, and 6 letters), and Trilleth got to start it. Trilleth found a pair of T's for 350 each, and then spun consecutive 1000's on the wheel, cashing in with an S and two N's. She spun 700 next, but there were no L's, ending her turn. Angelfowl spun, but immediately landed on Bankrupt. Sephorin took over and found a B, then bought the O's and E, sandwiching the pick-up of a Free Spin with a pair of R's. With no points, she spun 500, but there were no G's. Smitty got the puzzle and found an H for 1000. He bought the I's, then found three K's and an M. He bought the A's, and then decided to solve, which he did successfully - Kabuki actors in their kimono - for 1400 points.

Our second puzzle was a 4 word phrase (3, 8, 5, and 4 letters), and we were back to Trilleth to start it. She started with a T for 150, but then called M which wasn't in the puzzle. Angelfowl got the wheel again, and this time got numbers. She found an H, but there was no B for her, and Sephorin took over, carrying over her Free Spin from Round 1. She found an S for 600, and three C's for 500 each. She bought the E's, found the R's and N's, and then decided to solve - Ice crunches under foot - for 2950 points.

The third puzzle was a 5 word phrase (7, 4, 9, 3, and 11 letters), which Smitty got to start. He put together quite a run, uncovering the R's, S, T's, L's, N's, D's, and two G's for 1000 each for 6600 points. He bought the A's and E's, then spun 600 and found an H. He bought the O and I next, and then spun again, only to land on Lose a Turn. Trilleth took over, found two Y's for 300 each, and solved - clearly very dangerous and threatening - for 600 points.

Angelfowl was first up to start Round 4, which was a 4 word phrase (8, 2, 6, and 13 letters). She started off nicely with 4 T's for 1400 points, and 5 N's for 2500 more. There were no H's for her on her next spin, though, and Sephorin took over. She called M, but there were none, and she decided to hold onto her free spin. Smitty got the puzzle, but couldn't find any V's. Trilleth took over, and called L, Y, A, O, S, P (for a Free Spin), and D. After asking for the scores, and taking into account the 1600 points she had so far in the round, continued. She got 450 for a C, and 1000 for the final consonant in the puzzle, at which point she solved - tendency to ignite spontaneously - for 3050 points, and the lead in the game.

I had one final puzzle for tonight, a 3 word thing (8, 6, and 7 letters), and Angelfowl up next to start it. She started off by landing on 1000, but there were no T's to capitalize on it. Sephorin took over, carrying over a Free Spin, and found three S's for 100 each, and an N for 200, then used those points to buy the E's and an I. She found an R for 100, a P for 200, two C's for 450 each, an M for 150, and an H for 300 before landing on Lose a Turn. Sephorin used her free spin there, and after requesting and hearing the scores, decided to solve - espresso coffee machine - for 1200 points.

I totalled up the scores, and coming in third tonight was Smitty with 1400 points. Trilleth was our runner-up with 3650 points, and pulling out first place and the mimsy borogove prize with the final round was Sephorin, with 4150 total points. Congratulations to all our winners, but especially Sephorin, the big winner, and winner of a mimsy borogove (two slithies). Join me again on February 5 at 10.00pm eastern for our next exciting edition of the Fed Phrase Game! And don't forget FEDPARDY! on January 29, also in Studio 1, beginning at 10.00pm eastern.
