REAL LIFE NEWS: THE ULTIMATE IN BEACH ACCOMMODATION

by Hazed

You've probably heard of the ice hotels that are constructed during the winter months in cold countries such as Iceland, where guests pay to spend a rather chilly night in a building carved out of ice. Brrrr! Now, as they work their way down the list of stock planets, there's a beach version: a hotel made entirely from sand.

This house of sand has been built in Weymouth, Dorset, on England's south coast. It took 1,000 tonnes of sand and a team of four sculptors, who worked 14 hours a day for seven days to build the structure. It has twin and double bedrooms at guests will pay £10 a night for the privilege of staying - but better hope it doesn't rain, because the hotel has no roof.

That's not the only drawback... there are no toilet facilities, and sand gets everywhere, particularly between the toes (and presumably into all kinds of intimate crevices too). Read more about it, and watch a video (with an incredibly irritating news reporter) here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/7520842.stm.

Next I am expecting a hotel made entirely out of candy...
