FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday October 28
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

We got three players for tonight's Fed Phrase Game - Gandroid, Arthurfrayn, and Jazir all showed up in Studio 1 to play. After a refresher on the rules, and spinning the wheel to determine the order in which they would play, we got right to our first puzzle, a 4 word thing (3, 4, 2, and 3 letters).

Gandroid started off guessing an R, but there weren't any. Arthur took over and found a T for 300. His next call of an N ended his turn. Jazir spun Lose a Turn with his first spin, turning it back over to Gandroid, who tried H, only to miss again. Arthur tried D on his next spin, and there was one, making the last word "TD_". Not surprisingly, his next letter was X. Maybe surprisingly to the players, there were two of them. Arthur's next choice of an M ended his turn. Jazir got the puzzle again, and this time got to choose letters, starting with a B for 500, then bought the O's, leading him to pick F next, of which there were two, prompting him to solve - box full of TDX - for 1050 points.

Our second puzzle was 5 word things (8, 7, 3, 9, and 6 letters). We were back to Gandroid to start this puzzle. It started off spinning 1000, and finding a T. Appropriately enough for this particular puzzle, Arthur was cheering "hoot hoot hoot" on that spin, unaware that would appear in the eventual solution. Gandroid hit 1000 again, and this time found 2 R's. After finding a pair of S's for 400 each, Gandroid bought the I's and O's before spinning 750 and finding 4 N's. It bought the A's and E's, then spun again, picking up 300 for a D, then finding two G's for 2000 more points. It bought the U, finishing off the vowels, and then kept spinning. It placed a P for 300, L for 1000, C for another 1000, two H's for 200 each, and finally two M's for 300 each, filling in the last letters. Then it read the solution aloud to solve the puzzle - peculiar hooting and hammering noises - for 11,150 points.

Tonight's third puzzle, and as it turned out, the last one we had time for, was a 5 word phrase (6, 3, 4, 6, and 7 letters), and Arthurfrayn was up next to start it. Before spinning, he said, "come on bankrupt or lose a turn". He got his wish - the wheel landed on Bankrupt, causing Gandroid to chorckle so hard at the sequence of events it sprayed some of the WD-42 it had been drinking, and turning the puzzle over to Jazir. Jazir found a pair of T's, three S's, an A, and three E's before a missing N ended his turn. Gandroid started off landing on Free Spin, and picked it up with the H's in the puzzle. Three R's for 400 each, and a B and G for 350 each gave it some points with which to buy the I's, finishing the vowels. Gandroid's next spin landed on Bankrupt, wiping out its points. Gandroid decided to use its free spin to continue, and got back 600 points with a D, then 600 more with a pair of L's, and then solved - bright red, with silver flashes - for 1200 more points.

That brought us to the end of our hour, and Gandroid was our BIG winner tonight, with 12,350 total points. Jazir was our runner-up with 1050 points. Congratulations to both on their showings tonight. I hope you'll join us the next time we play the Fed Phrase Game, on November 11, beginning at 10.00pm eastern. And come blow off some steam with us on election night, November 4 starting at 10.00pm eastern, as we play FEDPARDY! in Studio 1.
