REAL LIFE NEWS: BACON SANDWICHES CURE HANGOVERS

by Hazed

It's not just chocolate that has been redeemed: now the humble bacon butty has been shown to help cure hangovers, thanks to the dual chemical benefits of the combination of the classic pork/bread combination.

This fantastic news comes from the Centre for Life in Newcastle in the UK, courtesy of Elin Roberts, the science development manager. He said, "Food doesn't soak up the alcohol, but it does increase your metabolism - helping you to deal with the after-effects of indulgence. So food will often help you feel better. Bread is high in carbohydrates and bacon is full of protein, which breaks down into amino acids.

"Your body needs these amino acids, so eating them will make you feel good. Bingeing on alcohol depletes neurotransmitters too, but bacon contains a high level of amines which tops these up, giving you a clearer head."

It's not just eating the bacon sarnie that helps to clear your head, but the preparation has an effect too - specifically, the smell of cooking bacon which always makes people feel better.

So, that's my meals sorted: bacon sarnies followed by chocolate. Yum.
