REAL LIFE NEWS: TWO EXAMPLES OF TRULY DUMB CRIMINALS

by Hazed

More stories of the interaction of technology and crime...

Seven youngsters have been arrested by Waterville police after they set off Molotov cocktails in a former Boys and Girls Club, videoed themselves doing it, and then posted it onto YouTube. How stupid is that?

Police said the suspects broke into the empty building through a window, made the explosive devices and then set them off, causing flames as high as 20 feet. The video clearly showed the faces of the suspects - but to make it even easier for police to identify them, it also included text giving their names. All seven have been charged with burglary and arson.

Meanwhile, a teenager in Arizona was shopped to the cops by his mobile phone! The unnamed 16-year old from Peoria was bragging to his friends about the theft of a car stereo, when somehow his phone called the police - who recorded the call and got all of the details.

Police managed to triangulate on the phone's signal to roughly locate the boasting buffoon, and a squad car found the youth with the stolen car stereo in his hands.

So just how did his phone come to grass him up to the police? Maybe it had been pre-programmed to call the police at the touch of one button - or maybe he was very unlucky in a case of accidental button pushing.

He's been released to the custody of his parents or guardian and written up for felony vehicle burglary, which will be prosecuted in juvenile court.
