STORIES I DIDN'T COVER THIS WEEK

by Hazed

Some weeks, I struggle to find enough interesting stories for the Real Life News section of the Fed2 Star. Other weeks, I have an abundance, so have to pick and choose from the possibilities that people send me or that I find on my trawls of interesting websites.

Why do I reject some stories? Some of the reasons:

  • It's been reported too much already - if you've likely already heard about a story then there's no point me covering it, unless I have something to say on the subject that hasn't already been said
  • It doesn't spark me - even if a story is interesting, if it doesn't inspire me to write about it, then I won't
  • It's too far off topic - usually to be included in real life news, a story has to be about space, or science, or technology, or have some vague connection to Fed2. Ok, sometimes I include stories about dumb criminals and other morons doing really idiotic things, too. But a story about knitting, say, wouldn't qualify unless it was knitting patterns for SF characters or a knitted model of a brain or something like that.

This week was one of those where I had plenty to pick from. Here's some of the stories I was tempted by, but decided not to cover.
