DOWNGRADING YOUR RANK

by Hazed

The feature that allowed you to declare bankruptcy at various ranks to move back to an earlier part of the game was disabled when the business code went in, so it could be rewritten. Alan has now done half of the extra work so the command has gone back in for all except Industrialists. Here's how it works, or will work, for the different ranks:

  • Merchant - no change to the code. You are put back down to Adventurer.
  • Industrialist (not implemented yet) - You are put back to Trader, with enough trader credits to promote back to Indy. Your business is destroyed completely. This should be in by next weekend.
  • Manufacturer - here's where things are different. Your company is liquidated and a final dividend is paid out to shareholders. You're put back to Industrialist, and the money you receive for your part of the liquidation proceeds is used as the starter capital for a new business with the same name as the company.
  • Financier - no change to the code. You are put back to Manufacturer, the company's accounts are zeroed and you're left with 5 meg to try again. You get to keep any shares you have in other companies, so you'll reap the benefits of divvies that get issued - but you can't sell those shares or buy any new ones until you make it back to Financier.

Once the Indy bankruptcy is in, you'll be able to use the command several times to go back from Financier to Trader if you want to go all the way through the CEO ranks again.

Of course, all ranks can downgrade themselves to GroundHog using the very efficient 'SUICIDE' command!
