REAL LIFE NEWS: ANOTHER TWIT

by Hazed

Last issue, I told you about the idiot who ran into a tree while sending a message to Twitter. This week, we have the tragic tale of the texting teenager who fell down a manhole!

Alexa Longueira, 15 years old and from Staten Island, was walking and texting which meant she wasn't looking where she was going, and as a result, she fell into an uncovered sewer manhole. "It was four or five feet," she said. "It was very painful. I kind of crawled out and the DEP guys came running and helped me." She suffered scrapes to her arms but no serious damage, although she was frightened by the experience.

Sewer line workers are supposed to cut off pedestrian access to sites where they are working, or at the very least mark them with warning signs. The Department of Environmental Protection says that its workers had turned away briefly to grab some cones when the incident occurred.

"Oh my God, it was putrid," Alexa's mother said. "One of her sneakers is still down there."

Naturally enough, her family intend to sue!
