FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday September 29
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Four players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's Fed Phrase Game, and a couple more tuned in to the live broadcast on the channel. Tenabutter, Royalsims, Squeeky, and Aerie were in the studio while Jasmine and Occy watched the broadcast. After explaining the rules for our new players, we set the playing order with the luck of the wheel, and Tenabutter got the first slot, followed by Squeeky, Royalsims, and Aerie. With that set, we began the game.

Tonight's first puzzle was a 3 word thing (3, 4, and 10 letters), with Tenabutter up first to start it. She did so with a Bankrupt. There are worse times for that, and Squeeky took over, finding pairs of T's, H's, E's, and R's before landing on a Lose a Turn. Royalsims took over and found an S and M, and bought the A's, before trying an L not in the puzzle. Aerie took over and called G, but it wasn't there for her. Tenabutter tried B, but still no instances. Squeeky then hit a Bankrupt at one of those worse times, wiping out 2150 points. Royalsims decided not to spin any more and solved it right then and there - The Mars Pathfinder - for 700 points.

Our second puzzle was a 6 word phrase (7, 6, 2, 4, 1, and 4 letters), with Aerie up next to begin it. She found an S for 1000 points, and bought the A's, before a Lose a Turn stopped her. Tenabutter found an R for 750, then an N for a Free Spin, before picking an L missing from the puzzle, and decided to use that Free Spin. She promptly found four T's for 600 each, bought the I's, found a G for 1000 more, bought the U's and O's, and picked up another Free Spin with the W's. She then decided to solve - without having to wear a suit - to take Round 2 for 3400 points.

The third puzzle was a 4 word thing (4, 6, 2, and 9 letters), and Squeeky was up next to start the puzzle. Squeeky found a pair of T's for 700 points, then missed with an N to end its turn. Royalsims took over and found an S and two R's for 1200, bought the A, then called an M missing from the puzzle. Aerie spun 500 and called a K, and there was one, then bought the E's to complete "streak" as the second word. She tried an H next, but there were none, ending her turn. Tenabutter took over with a Free Spin in hand and found a pair of F's for 1000, bought the O's, found a Y, bought the I's to finish off the vowels, then spinning called V, which was present, C, which was not, and after turning in her Free Spin, continued with D, W, and finally L to complete the puzzle, and then solve it - wide streak of frivolity - for 2250 points. Asked where that was, I told them it appeared in Cathy's Castle on Phobos, describing Cathy.

We had time for further puzzling, and I presented the fourth puzzle of the night, which was a 7 word thing (1, 5, 4, 1, 4, 3, and 5 letters). We were back to Squeeky to start once more. Squeeky found an S, a T, and bought the A's, before choosing an N that drew the buzzer. Royalsims took over and found R's, L's, I's, and an F before a Lose a Turn stopped him. Aerie got the puzzle and found a pair of M's for 1200, bought the O's, and found the D before landing on a Lose a Turn. Tenabutter spun once, landed on 1000, called Y, which was in the puzzle once, bought the E's, and then solved - a still from a very old movie - for another 750 points, bringing her game score to 6400 points.

The quickness with which tonight's puzzles got solved left time for a fifth and final puzzle, a 5 word thing (6, 7, 2, 3, and 4 letters). Once again, we were back to Squeeky to start the puzzle. This time, Squeeky made the most of it. Squeeky started with three T's for 500 each, and four N's for 1000 each for a quick 5500 points. An H was next, followed by buying the E and A's. Squeeky spun 500 and found an R, then bought an O. Squeeky took an S next, for 350, and then a P (which I suggested doing on the paper) for 600, and a G for 400 more, building up 6800 points. Buying the U, then the I's brought Squeeky's score down to 6300 with two blanks left. When Squeeky filled in one of them with an M for 400 points and the solution quite clear, Tena commented, "ironic that a mouse might win this one LOL". An L for 300 completed the puzzle, and Squeeky then solved it - animal turning on the spit - for 7000 points.

Our final scores tonight saw Royalsims grabbing third place with 700 points. Tenabutter was our runner-up with 6400 points. And with that final puzzle, Squeeky pulled out first place with 7000 points! Congratulations to tonight's winners, and a big thank-you to all our players, who put on an exciting game, and our audience who got to see it. Maybe you can pull out an exciting last-puzzle victory, too. Your next chance to try comes on October 13, starting at 10.00pm eastern in Studio 1. And don't forget FEDPARDY! in the same time and place on October 6. Come join us for Tuesday night excitement.
