WHO CAN WRITE EVENTS?

The event editor is only available for Windows computers. We hope to have a Mac version available soon.

You can only have an event file linked to your planet if you are a Technocrat or above, but you can download the editor and start writing your events at any time, in preparation for promoting to the right rank.

If you have more than one planet, you can write events for any or all of the planets - each planet will have its own event file. You can also write events to happen in space. If you want to see what space events look like go take a look at Rigel space.

You do not have to be a programmer to write events - but you do have to have a bit of a techy streak in you to understand how they work. If you struggled with getting everything right for your basic planet map, messed up the orbit or landing pad locations, didn't understand how to put no-exit messages on locations, had me chuck the files back at you because of errors... then events may not be for you. They are complex, there's no way of getting around that. We've made them as easy as we can, but because they allow you to do a lot of things in a very flexible way, they do require a bit of logical thinking.

Still, don't let that put you off. Give it a try. Download the manual and start reading through it. It starts by explaining some of the background information you need about how events work, then it goes through the operation of the event editor, and then it gets onto the business: a tutorial on how to write events, step-by-step lessons to guide you through the process, starting with one easy thing and then building on it to do more complex stuff. You need to read the lessons in order, and write the events using the editor as you go - if you try to jump ahead because you will get lost.
