REAL LIFE NEWS: GAME ADDICTION RUINED MY LIFE!

by Hazed

If you're addicted to Fed, don't blame us. It's not our fault that we have crafted an enjoyable game that you want to play, sometimes to excess...

These words could be addressed to a litigious Californian gentleman by the name of Erik Estavillo, who is suing the makers of World of Warcraft for ruining his life with their addictive game. He's seeking a million bucks in damages because the time he spent slaying orcs and finding treasure turned him into a mindless basket case who can't function in the real world.

He accuses the game's developers of "sneaky and deceitful practices". I'm not quite sure what those would be. But before anyone starts taking this lawsuit seriously, it's worth noting that he has called as witnesses such unlikely characters as Martin Gore, who is the songwriter for band Depeche Mode, Winona Ryder, Sigourney Weaver and the spirit of Karl Marx. No, I have no idea what this disparate group have to do with World of Warcraft!

Erik is no stranger to litigation - he has previously filed suit against Microsoft due to stress caused by a broken Xbox, Sony because they banned him from their network thus infringing his right to free speech, and Nintendo who blocked some Wii software or something.

So we shouldn't take this too seriously. Except that frivolous lawsuits, no matter how deranged, still cost defendants time and money to get them chucked out of court.
