FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday January 5
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Brady, Caliban, and Angelfowl came to Studio 1 for the kick-off premiere of the 2010 Fed Phrase Game season. All three players were already familiar with how to play the game, so we got right into setting their playing order, which also happened to be in alphabetical order as it turned out - Angelfowl, Brady, Caliban. Easy as A, B, C.

Our first puzzle was a 4 word thing (4, 8, 4, and 4 letters), with Angelfowl starting it. She found a pair of S's, pair of T's, four R's, bought the U and A, found an N, and bought the E's, before calling an M that ended her turn. Brady took over and found a pair of D's for 1000 each, then a K, leaving only vowels. After buying an O, he was able to solve - rust streaked iron door - to take Round 1 for 2050 points.

Tonight's second puzzle was a 5 word phrase (6, 6, 3, 8, and 2 letters), and Caliban was up next to start the puzzle. Cal found a T, followed by three S's and three D's, a pair of N's, three R's, and a G for 5000 total points, before his next letter, a P, was missing from the puzzle. Angelfowl landed on a Free Spin, but her call of L was not in the puzzle to allow here to pick it up. Brady wanted to buy a vowel, but needed points first. So he spun and landed on 1000, and found a C. That allowed him to buy the A's, I's, O, and E's. Then it was time to spin again, and he landed on 600, and placed a B. That gave everyone a big clue to the final word, and Brady then solved the puzzle - rescue droids are standing by - for 600 points.

The third puzzle was a 5 word thing (6, 3, 5, 7, and 5 letters), and once again we were back to Caliban in the order to start it. On his first spin, Caliban called a T, but there weren't any in the puzzle. Angelfowl found a D for 1000, then three N's, and bought the A's. She then spun again and called S, but that wasn't in the puzzle, turning it over to Brady. Brady started by placing an R, then two W's for 1000 each before buying the E's and I. Brady then picked up a Free Spin with a G, bought the O, and then found 5 L's for 750 each, two B's for 400 each, a Y for 200, and then another Free Spin with a C. That's when Brady decided to solve - yellow and black warning label - for 6450 points.

That was all the rounds we had time for tonight, and Brady made it a clean sweep for first place with 9100 points. Congratulations to Brady, and thank you to Angelfowl and Caliban for also coming to play tonight. Join us again January 19 for the next edition of the Fed Phrase Game. And join us on the 12th for the 2010 premiere of FEDPARDY!
