HOW TO SUBMIT AN ADDITIONAL PLANET

by Hazed

With the announcement last week that Plutocrats can purchase another planet for their star systems, taking the possible total to 5, and that this planet can be a bio asteroid if you choose, I thought it was time to run through the process for designing and submitting an additional planet.

Whether you're a Mogul just adding your second world, a Gengineer inserting your first bio asteroid into your system, or a Plutocrat going for the free world or the one that costs 4 slithies, the process is the same.

Designing an Additional Planet

Start out by designing the new planet's map. You can use the planet map from one of the stock planets but you won't need the space map, because you already have a space map and you only want one for your star system.

You need to alter your space map, to make an orbit location for the new planet. Make sure you put some directions from the link so that players can find the new planet. If you make them play hunt-the-planet they may get bored and go away. Make a note of the location number for the new planet's orbit.

Go back to the new planet map and edit the map information by putting in the map title, the landing pad location number, and the orbit location number from the space map. The format is the same as you used for your original planet - for example Newstar.Newstar Space.467 - with your system name instead of Newstar.

If you want to add no-exit messages to the new planet you can, but you will need to create a new message file because each planet has its own separate message file.

When you're done, save everything, then run the files through the Tesla planet checker to make sure there are no errors.

Submitting an Additional Planet

When you submit an additional planet to be linked into your star system, you need to send the space map, the new planet map plus its message file (and event and object files if you have created any) - and that's all.

Please do not send in an amended version of your first planet along with the additional planet. Putting in a new planet is a complicated task and trying to put replacement files for existing planets in at the same time just makes it even more tricky, and increases the likelihood that something will go wrong.

Once the new planet is in the game, then you can submit replacement files for any of the planets to fix problems or add new locations.
