REAL LIFE NEWS: LOST YOUR PHONE? CHECK THE SOFA

by Hazed

More than half of the mobile phones which are reported stolen in the UK later turn up down the back of the sofa.

This statistic is courtesy of the UK government's Home Office. Journalists from the IT news website The Register (source of many of the Fed2 Star's stories) were examining crime figures and noticed a discrepancy. 228 phones are reported stolen every hour in the UK, said one press release, which adds up to around 2m phones a year. But Home Office statistics say the number of handsets stolen is 700,000. So The Register sent in a question about what happened to the other 1.2m phones.

The answer: every year 1.3 million people report their phones stolen, then find them down the back of the sofa the next day.
