REAL LIFE NEWS: FLAMING IPOD STOPS TRAINSby HazedStories about iPods bursting into flames have been quite common over the past few years, and they normally result in a singed pair of trousers, or maybe some burnt thigh. But last week, a flaming iPod had a more wide-ranging effect: it shut down Tokyo's commuter trains. It started when passengers on a train between Tokyo and the cities of Kawasaki and Yokohama spotted smoke in a carriage. They alerted transit officials, who shut the system down, halted the train and all others on the line. "When a member of staff went to investigate inside the train," a rail spokesman told Reuters, "a passenger came over showing him that the iPod she was listening to had burst apart." There were no reports of injuries, and after an eight-minute delay, the system was restarted. For more information about how the flaming iPod stopped the trains, read the full story here. |
