CHAIR OF THE WEEK: NAGGING FURNITURE

by Hazed

Do you get backache when you have been sitting in one position for too long, or because you sit in a bad position? Then you will benefit from a new chair developed by a German scientist, which makes noises to tell you when you need to move.

The Intelli Chair was invented by Risto Koiva and colleages at Bielefeld University in northwestern Germany. The chair has touch-sensitive sensors - four in the seat and four in the back of the chair - which detect how the user is sitting, and send the data to a computer via a bluetooth module. If the chair detects that the sitter has been seated for too long, or is in the wrong position, it makes a noise to tell the user its time to change position.

The news report I read didn't say what kind of a noise it makes... does it squeak or creak, or perhaps use a voice to nag you into moving? I am not sure I really want to be told what to do by an item of furniture...
