FEDPARDY

Tuesday January 11
by Fancy-Fancy, Gengineer of Toontown

Yes, it's true, we actually held FEDPARDY! this week! Sjw, Dennotairn, Gizmo, and Squeeky came to Studio 1 to make it happen. I gave our players a refresher on how to play, and answered other questions they had about the game. Then I let everyone know the categories we would be using tonight: V for Victory, Roman Mythology in Fed, The Arts in Sol, and Commands. Sjw won the spin-off for the honor of first selection, and used it to start the game with Commands for 1 point.

Gizmo collected the first points of the game by ringing in and correctly questioning that answer, then did the same with the 2-pointer. Sjw got in first on the 3-pointer, but got it wrong. Gizmo then got the 4-pointer, before missing on the 5-pointer, which Sjw then got for 5. With the Commands category done, Sjw started the Roman Mythology in Fed category for 1, and Gizmo got it. He then started the Arts category for 1, which Sjw tried and missed. Gizmo then started the V for Victory category, and Sjw got the 1-pointer, Dennotairn the 2-pointer after Gizmo tried, but missed, it, and then Dennotairn got the 3-pointer for good measure to finish the first half. At the break, Dennotairn led with 5, to 2 for Sjw, and 1 for Gizmo.

Gizmo got first selection in Double Fedpardy as the one trailing everybody else, and selected V for 8. He also rang in and got it right to take the lead with 9 points, only to ring in and miss on the 10-pointer, along with Dennotairn, plunging both into the hole. With the V category done, Gizmo went back to the Roman Mythology category for 4. Sjw got that one, perhaps by accident, judging by his comments, but got it correct none the less. Sjw then found the first of two Daily Doubles, and decided to make it a true Daily Double, betting 6. This was his answer:

This planet is named after the Roman god of agriculture. Perhaps that explains the economy of one of its moons in Fed.

Sjw responded with, "What is Jupiter?", but the correct response was "What is Saturn?" That dropped his score to zero, leaving no one in positive points. Sjw shifted the category to The Arts for 4 points, and Dennotairn got it to get within one point of getting out of the hole. No one attempted to respond to the 6-pointer, though Gizmo expressed temptation. Dennotairn then found the other Daily Double, and decided to "go all in", risking the maximum 10 points. This was the answer he got:

The Venus Museum has an exhibit entitled Myths and Legends, featuring this character.

Dennotairn tried Apollo, but that was incorrect. Pegasus was the correct character for this one, and Dennotairn found himself with -11 points. However he promptly got those 10 points back with Roman Mythology for 10 when he rang in and got it right, and then got on the plus side by getting the 6-pointer immediately after. That left The Arts in Sol for 10 as the lone remaining answer. Gizmo rang in quickly, hoping to get out of the hole, but couldn't come up with the right response. Sjw then rang in and identified the correct location name to get the 10 points and give himself some points to wager in Final Fedpardy. At the end of Double Fedpardy, Sjw had 10 points, to 5 for Dennotairn, and -11 for Gizmo.

Sjw and Dennotairn advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the opportunity to wager as many of their points as desired. Once they had made their wagers, and verified they were ready, I gave out tonight's Final Fedpardy answer in Sol Objects and Mobiles:

One of the objects in Sol that you can play with, pretending it's a bladed weapon.

When 60 seconds were up, we started with Dennotairn. He responded with, "What is the No flippin idea?" That was of course incorrect, and with his wager of 5 points, that dropped him to zero.

That left Sjw, the leader coming in. He wrote down, "what is I have no clue?" Clearly not correct, either. I happened to have one of the objects with me, and demonstrated with the cocktail stick. The other object that would have worked is the umbrella. Sjw wagered one point, leaving him with 9. And that made him this week's FEDPARDY! champion!

Congratulations to Sjw, winner of this week's FEDPARDY! Dennotairn takes the runner-up slot. Thanks also go to Gizmo, who played, and Squeeky, who spectated. Join me in Studio 1 on January 23 at 10.00pm eastern for another game of Fedpardy.
