OBJECT OR MOBILE?

by Hazed

There is actually no difference in Fed2 between an object and a mobile. The somewhat arbitrary distinction, in the past, has been that mobiles are people, or non-player characters, but in terms of what you can do with them it really doesn't make any difference. You can have a conversation with a mobile... but you can also talk to an object, if it happens to be a computer or maybe a speak-your-weight machine.

So maybe the distinction is that mobiles can move... but Diesel doesn't move; she has no intention of leaving CDs. And some objects could move, like a spaceship, or a bouncing ball.

So really, there is no difference, and the two terms are interchangeable. As a result, any objects/mobiles you have already written can be made to move using the new editor - you just need to load the object file into the new editor and add the values to make the object move. Or write a new mobile for an existing object file, or if you don't already have any objects on the planet, start a new file.

You can also put moving mobiles in space - just make an object file for the space map.
