REAL LIFE NEWS: THREE MYSTERIOUS KEYS

by Hazed

How many keys are on your keyring? And do you know what they are all for?

A recent survey answers those questions, at least for British people, who on average carry nine keys around with them, but can only identify six of them. The other three are mystery keys, with the owners not knowing what they unlock.

Which makes you wonder why they bother to carry the three keys around with them!

The survey was carried out on behalf of an insurance company, esure, who asked a thousand or so average people. They discovered that women carry ten keys and men eight. But 9% of those polled carry more than 21 keys around with them, which must be quite a heavy burden.

Other interesting factoids coming from this survey are that 90% of people replace the locks on their houses if their keys are stolen - but if they simply lose the keys, only 10% bother to do so, the rest of them figuring that the finders won't know whose houses the keys are for. Although 5% of people put an address tag on their keys which would make it a lot easier for those finding them to put them to nefarious purposes.

20% of homes have a front door key conveniently "hidden" near the door. Rocks are the most popular hiding place, followed by the doormat, and "under a car tyre". Clearly people need to come up with more original hiding places.

Also, if a stranger asked me where I hid my spare front door key, I wouldn't tell them... would you?
