SLOW DOWN, YOU MOVE TOO FAST*

After my article last week about the robocleaner stalking me because its movements took it in and out of Diesel too fast, I had a chat with Bella about mobile speed in general.

The increment of mobile movement was coded as 10 seconds, so that's the fastest you can make a mobile go. But having experienced moving mobiles in the game it has become clear that 10 seconds is too fast and nobody should design a mobile that zips in and out at that speed.

There is also a technical issue: every 10 seconds, the game has to check all the planets in Fed DataSpace to see if there are any mobiles that need to be moved. As more planets gets added (five new ones this weekend!) that's going to take longer, and then as more mobiles appear the task of moving them is also going to take up processing time.

So we have made the decision to slow mobiles down. From today, the increment is 30 seconds. When you design a mobile and set its speed, 1 will equal 30 seconds, 2 will be one minute, 120 will be an hour, and so on, right up to the upper limit of 1000 which will be roughly 8 hours and 20 minutes.
