REAL LIFE NEWS: SCHOOL PLAY PROP SPARKS TERRORIST ALERT

by Hazed

Police in Northamptonshire, England, have advised that anybody disposing of the props from school plays should do so "responsibly", after a major bomb alert was sparked by a discarded piece from a theatrical production.

The police report of the incident says that a "suspicious package" was found in Kingsthorpe, which caused "an evacuation of the immediate area". Traffic was diverted and the bomb squad was called in.

"These steps were taken as a precautionary measure and following a small controlled explosion we can confirm that the device found was not a bomb," said Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Blatchly. "We have established that the device was in fact made for a school play and later disposed of."

Sadly, the report does not have a picture of the offending school prop, or even a description that would let us see just how much a threat it appeared to be. Was it a small black sphere with a wick and the word BOMB painted on the side, I wonder?
