REAL LIFE NEWS: T-SHIRTS TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE

by Hazed

Every year at Glastonbury music festival, the mudfest that happens at the end of June, the Orange phone company comes up with some strange technology, often with an eco-friendly twist. In the past, they've had welly boots with phone chargers in the heel, and tents that you can phone to make them light up to help you find them amongst a sea of other tents.

This year, their innovative product was a t-shirt that generated power from the sound of the bands, to charge up your phone.

The shirts use a piezoelectric panel to convert vibrations into voltage. This is stored in a battery which you can then plug your phone into to charge it up. Sounds really useful, although apparently it would take the music from the whole three-day festival to generate enough power for one charge. Still, it's a way of extending the life of the phone if you don't have any other way to charge it in your flooded-out tent.

Read more about the charge-up t-shirt, and watch Orange's promotional video, here.
