REAL LIFE NEWS: THE BURGLAR LEGGED IT

And so we come to the dumb criminal story, this time about how police were able to catch a burglar without any effort at all.

A housebreaker had made off with computers and jewels in a series of raids near Perth in Scotland. At first, police didn't have any clues to follow, until after one of the raids they found some footprints. Or rather, one footprint and one crutch mark.

Yes, the burglar turned out to only have one leg. Police were able to follow this rather distinctive trail back to his flat where they found David Phillips, whose leg is amputated above the knee. To clinch the matter, his DNA matched that left at one of the crime scenes.

In court, Phillips said he had lost his leg through drugs and didn't know it had been amputated until he woke up in hospital.

He's now been jailed for 40 months.
